Honestly I'm going to keep the welcome message short. I dont like the sound of my voice that much.
Basically I started this tribe with the intention of sharing information amongst folks who like the dome home concept, those who erect temporary structures and those of us who already live in a dome home and dont mind sharing information and answering questions.
I have liberally stolen some fotos from several websites and I posted the relevant links from each of the sites that they where stolen from. There are usually stories associated with the pictures either by following the link directly or going to the home page of the site listed in the photo caption.
Good stuff. Current sites include:
www.monolithicdome.com (concrete domes!)
www.aidomes.com/
www.domehome.com/
www.naturalspacesdomes.com/

Sun, January 2, 2005 - 11:33 AMHola,
My name is Holly. I grew up in a 40foot bucky dome in southern Indiana. I upload a picture of it - dome in the snow. My father, the builder, started by reading a builders book and figured the rest out by trial and error. We heated it with a wood burinng stove, energy from the grid and solar and wind generation. Growing up without flush toilets and square rooms is different. Try it, you just might like it!
I'm open to any questions. -

Mon, January 3, 2005 - 1:49 PMWelcome Aboard Holly!
So you mentioned that you lived without flush toilets. But you did recieve energy from the grid, is that to include water and sewer service?
I'm curious to hear about some of your experiences living in a dome, if you dont mind sharing. Maybe start a new topic talking about your experience if you dont mind?!

Re: Aloha
Sun, January 16, 2005 - 8:21 PMNo, we had a fan that cleared the air from the main holding area. It is called a clivus multrum sp? This is a bacteria placed in the tank to "eat" or breakdown the waste and esp the paper. We had to empty it once a year. A yukky event. My dad recently bought a pump to eliminate the bucketing part of the emptying. The part of the field that we emptied the waste was always so green.

Sat, February 5, 2005 - 5:36 PMTalked to my dad about the composting toilet and found out that we had a fan, run on electric, that vented it to the outside. The lids had to be shut to work properly.
